my little runners/walkers/swimmers….. but you know what? The spambots are killing me on this site. I’ve had to close the site to new entrants (but if you already have a log-in you can still post), just to keep the spam out. That makes me sad, so let’s just move ALL this traffic over to the Runagogo forum in Ravelry.com. If you’re not in Ravelry yet, just get on the list — you’ll be in in no time, and then you can join us there. That’s a safer, nicer place to be while we move anyway, isn’t it? Love us some Ravelry. I’ll see you over there (or running around the lake)….
You All Are Awesome
February 6th, 2008Still working on it …
February 4th, 2008I’m making steady progress, just not as much as I’d like. I’m at the end (I hope!) of a cold, so I’m hoping that I’ll have more energy once it’s completely gone. We’ll see …
checking in
January 31st, 2008Hello all,
I have just added up my walking miles for 2008 and I’m at 55 miles. I was very proud of reaching 500 miles last year so the new scheme is to walk 1000 kilometres or 621.37 miles in 2008. I only count miles walked outdoors for recreation or to do errands where I might have used the car in the past. It’s amazing how they add up! How did everyone else do this month?
Just found the blog…
January 28th, 2008So, I heard about runagogo on ravelry. I’ve been posting weekly totals there, with no clue there was a whole blog devoted to this. So, here I am. My Jan 1-26 total is 48.8 (elliptical, stationary bike, hiking, bike riding). I will post weekly when I post on ravelry too.
I had no clue I put this many miles in since step classes are my favorite. Everything else is what I do when there is no step. Of course, I really want to be hiking Mt Whitney, but between the lottery and childcare issues…
What is your reward?
January 23rd, 2008What is everyone planning to reward themselves with if they achieve their goal? I would really like a digital camera so my I can finally show off my work on Ravelry. What would you like?
I’m active, if not moving
January 17th, 2008I have my daily walking to the bus, but last night I got off my duff and lifted weights. It was sad to look at my list of reps and pounds and see ho wmuch ground I’ve lost, but it felt great to the my muscles working.
Next up, putting air in the bike tires and getting out there!
Slow start, but better than no start …
January 14th, 2008After being too sick to get started the week of New Year’s, I did get started last week, and managed 4.2 miles. I’m pleased with that, since I still have some of my bronchitis, and the weather was icky here, so the fact that I accomplished anything is a plus!
First time posting!
January 14th, 2008I joined after the first, but I’m determined to do the full 100 miles, and hopefully more.
Rather than running myself ugly, I’m trying to run myself beautiful! Lol…
My wedding is May 24th, and there’s no better reason to get in shape than wedding pictures! No one wants to be immortalized looking less than their best.
So far, I’m at 8 miles!
3 down…
January 13th, 2008Hi everyone! I just started running regularly at the end of last year so I’m really excited to be a part of Runagogo this year. It is pretty hard to get motivated to run when it is cold outside so I can use all the motivation I can get. I just got back from my first run of the year, so even though I am a little bit late, I am feeling good about doing 100 miles by April!
Stockholm!
January 12th, 2008Hello all!
I’m about to depart for 6 months abroad and I thought this would be the perfect time to zero-out the miles and start again! I think this will be a great way to get to know my new city (perhaps I can share some photos from my Runagogo constitutionals). I am less ambitious regarding actually *running* this time around as I’ve been having some knee trouble. But however I get there, walking, bicycling or maybe running eventually, 100 is my goal.
It’s great to be back!
Track Your Progress
January 10th, 2008I’ve set up a Runagogo group over at WeEndure — it’s a great site to keep track of your miles, in whatever form you’re moving, and we can watch each other go!
Site is here: http://weendure.com/group/runagogo
I’m back
January 7th, 2008I joined the first Runagogo last year, and cross country skiied almost the whole 100 miles. Then I started a new job/moved across the country, and am only starting to get moving again. I don’t have easy access to the ski trails anymore, so I will track my mileage at the gym.
New here…
January 7th, 2008Kinda…
Hi, I’m Barb. I registered in September, but never posted. Bad blogger.
Well, bad runner. I started Couch to 5K in September and got to week 3 before throwing in the towel. I’m back.
One of my goals for 2008 is to establish a workout routine that’s easy to stick to.
Glad to be here…
Welcome 2008
January 6th, 2008I made the goal last year and I’m back in the saddle! I’ve been off the bike for 6 weeks - just out of busy-ness and a little laziness. But it’s time to get serious about my daily workout. I’ve ordered Yoga for Cyclists - and joined Gold’s Gym (actually, I joined Gold’s in October) and signed up for a Terry Bicycle Ride in April. It’s only a metric century - 65 miles - but it’s a goal.
Second times the charm
January 6th, 2008I joined last year but didn’t keep up. I’m determined to do it this year. I have 1 mile down (already a little behind)
I’m in it to win it!!
January 4th, 2008I took December off of activity (and October and November for that matter). Time to get back on it.
This will be starting all over again, as I hung up my shoes after an injury in late June ‘07.
100 Miles before my birthday. Woo Hoo!!!!

2007 total
January 2nd, 2008I did 740 miles for the year. Having dogs really helps. And now I’m starting to track 2008. I’m going to follow it on Ravelry too, under the same name. And doing this tracking is leading me to try to track other efforts. All the best to everyone for 2008: health, determination and all the other necessaries.
Yay! Time to Try Again!
January 2nd, 2008Okay, so I only made it to the halfway point last time but here’s to trying again!! Thanks everyone for being such inspirations and good luck!!
Nike+ Runagogo Participants!
December 31st, 2007Hey there!
Well, tomorrow marks the start of another round. I set up a goal challenge on the Nike+ website, so if you want to play along, respond with your nike+ id and I’ll add you.
Good luck everyone!
Hello! I’m back
December 31st, 2007I actually only almost completed one round at the beginning of 2007, but this year I really want to make it stick. I had surgery, which threw me off and then I got busy, but this time I really want to see if I can stick with this for more than 3 months.
Hey, Tricotine!! You’re my inspiration, girl!!
In!
December 29th, 2007and on ravelry!
Starting fresh
December 28th, 2007Well, I fell off the radar last round, mostly due to having surgery and the related recovery from it.
However, I’m definitely up for another round starting January 1 - 100 or 101 miles works for me, just let me know, and I’ll be trying my best to accomplish something this time around.
I’m back in.
December 28th, 2007I’m back in with you, Rachael. Except for the past 3 weeks I’ve actually been doing ok with the workouts, but haven’t posted since I-don’t-know-when. Back to the gym today, but I’m not going to start logging miles until 1/1. I’m seriously thinking about doing the Avon Walk again too. We’ll see! I’m starting with the 100-mile commitment first.
The name is no-blog-rachel but I actually have one now - come visit! no-blog-rachels-blog on blogspot.
cue the Proclaimers!
December 26th, 2007I made it! Before heading off to Boxing Day dinner with 40+ of my closest relatives (I have eight younger sibs and we have a total of 22 children ages 15 through 30 and several of them are now partnered!) I went for a quiet walk in the snow and passed my goal of 500 miles in 2007.
I’d like to set a new goal for 2008 but haven’t quite figured out what it will be yet. I think I could do 1000 kilometres if I really set my mind to it. I have a few days to decide what to do.
A very happy New Year to you all. Peace, good will and good health. Thanks for the wonderful year Rachael!
I’m with you, Rachael!
December 23rd, 2007Just did my first mile since I had gone out with an injury (microtear - OUCH!). I’m planning on working my way back to my previous 3 miles every other day over the next few weeks. So while I only made it to about 60-odd miles in the runagogo 4th quarter challenge for 2007, I’m hoping to do better in ‘08 (and here’s to an injury-free year).
Runagogo is on Ravelry!
December 14th, 2007Ok, I went ahead and created our Ravelry group for those ravelers doing Runagogo…you will find it here. Please come, join me and let’s have some fun!
Ready for the next round!
December 12th, 2007So, I too have failed miserably since the first go around (but I faithfully kept this blog in my bloglines for the guilt factor) but I’m back in the saddle. I have once again strapped on my handy dandy nike+ and am doing the Couch to 5K podcast. This is just to start. I have also already worked out a training schedule so that I can be ready for a 10K in June (our local Pride “fun run”) and am hoping to do the Seattle Marathon (half or whole I haven’t decided yet) next fall…lofty goals? Perhaps, but I plan to have fun too…
Now, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a lack of a Runagogo group on Ravelry! If I started one, would anyone be interested in joining??? Or should we stick to just this blog? Doubling up too weird?
Anyhow, Rachael, just wanted to let you know you weren’t the only slacker…(I have gained about 10-15 pounds in the last year…)
I’ve also decided to ONLY put the running in my totals. Last year I was even more out of shape so I used my walking and my running. This year I promise to get to my total from running alone!
Hi kids!
December 12th, 2007Long time no talk! Or walk, or run, for that matter. I’ve been lazy, how have you been? (Sorry for those horrid ads that have been popping up here — some spam is pernicious and SMART, but I’m kicking it away as quickly as I can.)
Tell me what you’re doing. Are you moving? Seriously, I’m not, and I’ve gained ten pounds in the last eight months. Just enough to make me feel uncomfortable. I’m about ready to gear up for another three months, 100 miles running. Maybe I’ll make it 101, just to up the goal. I’m thinking about starting on January first, like we did last year, and using these last holiday weeks to TRY to move and see if I can remember where I put my running shoes.
Anyone else with me? Besides darling Grace? I know you’re with me, dear. Anyone?
love,
is there anybody out there?
November 30th, 2007Hello all,
I’m happy to report that I have logged 459 miles since January 1, 2007 and have 41 miles left to go in December to reach my 500 mile goal. I think I can do this! Ottawa is already snow covered and my 2 mile walk this afternoon was amid the big, soft, silent flakes that are almost hypnotic. I look forward to watching the cross country skiers on the river trail in the morning — a sunny Saturday will bring everyone out of doors.
Tricotine’s Update
November 12th, 2007
I am doing great on my Couch to 5K program. I have completed Week 4 - Day 3, and therefore I have added a few miles to my Runagogo challenge!
During my last running session, I was able to jog for 20 minutes non-stop at 5 mph (12 min/mile), incline 1% on my treadmill. This is not enough to run a complete 5K race, but it certainly feels great to see progress in my training!
I need to increase my speed, endurance and the incline of my treadmill, because roads are not completely flat, and I don’t want to spit a lung on the side of the road, before the finish line…
Anyway. Because, he has injuried his ankle during his last run, my husband couldn’t train with me this weekend, so he only watched me and took photos.
I especially like the movement effect of the one here below. I have made it my computer’s desktop wallpaper as an extra motivation.

Happy Veterans Day to all, and keep up the good work!
* ~ Tricotine ~ *
A Non-RAGG Milestone…
October 28th, 2007Well, I’m only at 18.75 miles for the Runagogo challenge, but I’ve run over 50 since I got my nano in late August! Go me!
A little late, but I’m still in!
October 27th, 2007I just found this wonderful site and even though I’m a little late, I’m still shooting for 100 miles before Jan. 1st. I’m pretty confident I can do it - especially with everyone here doing the same thing. Keep up the great job!
this is more like it
October 26th, 2007I have just made 400 miles: I hit 100 miles each quarter and I’m now on the way to the 500 miles that I promised myself I could do in 2007.
I have another crazy scheme going which involves a goal of 1001 miles but I’ll get back to you on that when I’ve reached this goal. Honestly, I’m so proud I’m in danger of bursting my buttons.
Behind Schedule
October 24th, 2007I’m what?-24 days into this, and I’ve only walked almost six miles, which averages out to a quarter of a mile a day! Not great… Various things, including piano lessons, rainy weather, and trips to the library have hindered me, but I will still try. Brr! Is it chilly today! Of course, it isn’t that cold, but compared to the hot weather this summer, it’s cool.
By the way, how many Runagogo participants are in Ravelry? If there’s many, perhaps we should start a Ravelry group? (I, by the way, am a Ravelry member as of yesterday)
Anyway, here’s my tiny progress bar:
Third time’s the charm?
October 24th, 2007This is my third attempt…and although it’s early, I’m very optimistic that I’ll actually succeed this time–if for no other reason than we just adopted a four-year-old labrador that needs a LOT of walking. Talk about motivation–not only do I get exercise, I keep her happy and not pooping in the house…
Let’s Roll
October 24th, 2007I am ready for round 4
October 24th, 2007
I am ready for round 4
I am down for round 4
October 24th, 2007I know it is 10/24/07 And I did not make it last time but i will keep going iuntil I get it. Just pray for me.
Twelve Minute Mile
October 23rd, 2007Okay, so some of you are snickering, but I finally am closing in on getting to a mile in ten minutes. I’ve been trying to increase my distance going faster, but I decided today to just see if I could bulldoze through. I made a mile in twelve minutes, that’s down three minutes from usual but it took pretty much everything I had.
Soooo for today, only 1.30 miles but I got there quicker!
Same Distance, Different Speeds
October 16th, 2007Well, it’s still two more miles but with inclines and varying speeds. *note to self* do not run at an incline of EIGHT when you’re not ready!! ACK!! I made it, did a little mental dance of joy since I was too blown to do a real dance and hit that decrease button on the incline, FAST.
That ‘random’ setting can be really mean on a body if you aren’t looking!!!
Keep up the good work everyone!!
Playlist…
October 15th, 2007I posted my current playlist (30 minutes) in my personal blog today. Anyone else have good running tunes? What did Dick Clark say? “It’s got a good beat and you can run to it.” Right?
Here’s hoping I do better this time!
October 15th, 2007I was so slack during the last 3 rounds that I didn’t even bother to check and see if you guys were starting a 4th one. However, my month got off to a good start. I took a vacation with my husband and some friends that involved A LOT of walking. It was done in some beautiful locations (Jamaica and the Cayman Islands) but it was still a lot for me. Since I didn’t have my pedometer with me, I am counting 1 mile for each vacation day. That gives me 5 miles right at beginning of the month!
I put on a pedometer today only because I saw it sitting on top of the dryer when I did laundry. Between my purposeful exercise and my daily steps, I hope I can rack up at least 5 miles a week. That would give me 55 miles by the end of the year.
Good luck to me and everyone else on this journey!
October 12th, 2007
I will be staring out on a 100 mile walk and run starting 10/15. Do any of you veterans out there all have any tips for a newbie to help me on this new journey
Here I go… again!
October 11th, 2007I am still here… with new resolutions.
I made it through runagogo first round, but failed round 2 and 3…
Now, it is like I need to start from zero again…
I have posted the program I am going to follow in my blog.
Wish me luck!
Yay for Personal Best!!
October 10th, 2007Okay, so I only added two miles today on ye old mileage meter BUT I managed to do the whole thing jogging between 4.5 and 5.5 on the treadmill. Same distance, but faster!! Whoo hoo!! (aside from a MP3 slow down, but stayed at a brisk walk)
Thanks everyone for all of your inspiring posts and for this awesome Runagogo!!! You all have no idea how much this means to me to be able to see in numbers the increase in my personal fitness levels!!
I wanted to say how blessed for this sight as a friend of ours, at only 28 years old, had a heart attack with a 99% blockage and has adult diabetes. He and his wife are seriously overweight, but so was my husband. It could easily have been one of us, so I know how important getting up and moving are. You guys rock!!
This site has been a great motivator to get up and move!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
And We’re Off!
October 8th, 2007I’m coming to the party a little late, but I’m still confident I’ll make it. This was such a self-esteem booster last time I made the 100, so I am so doing it again.
Hi!
October 8th, 2007Hey, fellow knitters! I am really happy to be joining this group - I am developing a severe case of fall-knitting induced ‘knitter’s bottom’. Also, the chocolate probably isn’t helping. A little late to the party, but still confident I can do the 100 miles by January 1 (I gave myself an extra day due to my natural slothfullness). Good luck all - know you can do it!
esmerelda
I’m in this time!
October 7th, 2007I joined just in time to start this time around! I was off to a pretty good start, but then got sick last week.
I’m back in action now though, and looking forward to seeing how far I can go!
Delurking to Join Round 4
October 6th, 2007Count me in again. Just committing to join helped me to make my goal last time (seeing everyone else’s progress kept me going!) Here’s to ending the year on a positive note!
Toughest Workout Yet
October 6th, 2007I used a Podfitness trainer yesterday and wow did they make me workout. It was on the treadmill - walking from 3.0 to 3.5 with various inclines from 0% to 9% and running from 5.0 to 7.0 on 0% incline each time usually lasting from 2-3 minutes. It was almost two miles, with a new personal best for the mile. I definitely felt great afterwards. After killing my quads Monday I learned to ice when I was done and I am not sore today. YEAH!!!!
Hugs!!!
I’m In!
October 6th, 2007New to the group, but it sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll also be knitting as well as running because the holidays are right around the corner! Also, I have recently (finally) lost all the baby weight (30lbs!) thanks to the running. As a treat to myself, I’m going to buy some great yarn and knit something for myself instead of for my kids for a change!
Alex
Ready to gogo
October 6th, 2007I am totally new to the group. I have seen links and buttons over the past year and was curious. It wasn’t until I saw the challenge on Nike+ that I found the courage to join. I am happy to be here;)
Well…
October 4th, 2007I didn’t walk much today, and I didn’t get a walk in yesterday. But then, I’m not making too much progress in knitting either. Does anyone have any tips to help me keep on track? Here’s my puny progress bar:
It averages out to about 1/2 a mile a day, which will not get me to 90 or 100 miles in the time. Maybe I’ll walk more as time moves on.
I’m New and Would Love to Join
October 4th, 2007I’m new to walking/running and would love to join. I look forward to meeting everyone!!!
Hugs!!
Cat
In for Round 4
October 3rd, 2007Maybe the 4th time’s the charm. I did much better on mileage last time and went further than I had in the previous two rounds. I need to start getting the miles in at the gym now since the evenings are getting darker at a faster pace. Last round: 57.8 miles. Shooting for the full 100 this go around.
Still here
October 3rd, 2007Hello all and welcome to newcomers.
I’m still working away at my goal of 500 miles in 2007. The thyroid meds are doing their job, so I just might make it even though I’ll need to walk 1.8 miles per day to get there. If the weather in Ottawa continues to be as mild as it has so far this fall, I won’t have to do much of it in snowboots but reaching my goal will still be a challenge for me.
Which reminds me, are any of the rest of you over 50 years of age? 60? 70? Older?
So glad we’re doing this again!
October 3rd, 2007I’m so happy to see that we are doing another round - I covered more than 100 miles in the 2nd round (which was my first time participating), but the third round, managed only a little more than 60 miles. Partly from laziness, but partly from a hot, humid summer, and a few migraine events.
But I am determined to conquer 100 miles again this time, to finish 2007 on an upswing!
Yaay Round Four!!
October 2nd, 2007I’m so excited for this new round!! I want to hit it hard and fast and I mean literal- I want to get more distance and be faster at it too.
Great job everyone on last round!! You all inspire me (and sometimes make me say “they went how far?? WOW!)
Onward to the 4th Quarter…
October 2nd, 2007I’m back for the 4th Quarter, and stoked! After my Canada Day victory of making it past 100, I logged a mere 4.8 miles in the next round. Ok, I did walk a bit more than that, in actual fact, but not nearly as much as I normally do. And boy, can my stiff, creaky body feel it. The end of the second round also coincided with my leaving my bi-weekly Pilates studio workouts, for a summer (and financial) break. Yeah. Ouch. Don’t even ask me to touch my toes.
So now I’m back, and the timing couldn’t be better. My newly overhauled bicycle will be arriving later this week, and my house redecoration is almost done (only 1-1/4 more rooms!). I’m eager to get moving again, and I’m sure I just heard all my muscles breathe an audible sigh of relief.
Let’s Try this again…
October 2nd, 2007I think I tried the second round, but the hot weather was just too much for me. Well, I’m trying again, erasing my mileage, which happened to be approximately 10 2/3 miles for that round and adding today’s mileage for an attempt at this round. At the very least, I’m going to aim for a minimum of fifty miles by December 30, which gives me quite a bit of space for inclement weather, etc. However, I will try to get at least ninety and hopefully 100 miles in.
In for round 4!
October 2nd, 2007Okay, HizKnits, I’m in. Resetting the mile-ometer to today’s run (2.3 miles…). My total since getting the Nike doohickey in late August is 34.5. Will she make it to 100 in this round? Time will tell!
Oh - and think of me this Saturday, as I’m doing the AIDS Walk Washington (not running it, because I’m doing it with non-running friends).
Great timing!
October 1st, 2007This t-shirt was just released today. I love it as inspiration for my Run-a-go-go, as well as an affirmation of how cute we are in the shape we are today, as well as when/if we look like unicorns one day. It’s already sold out in Men’s M, which is a bummer. It would have matched my unicorn-y hemi-mohawk.

I’m going to need all the inspiration I can get, since I didn’t reach my 100 miles Rounds 2 or 3. Fourth time’s a charm?
One more: it’s Round 4!
October 1st, 2007Let’s finish this year! Whether it’s your fourth, your second or your first time, welcome to Round 4!
The idea: run/walk/swim/skate/MOVE 100 miles in the next three months, October 1st to December 31st. Do it whatever way you want (you can increase or decrease the mileage if your goals are different, but set that TODAY, tell us about it here, and get out there.) Here’s the background info and to learn how you can Run-a-go-go!
It’s time to Run-a-go-go! Who’s in?
AH man!!
October 1st, 2007Dang, I really biffed it this go ’round! Too many bizarre changes in my life, but at least there was SOME mileage. I keep telling myself that, and there is next quarter to finish the year off right. Right?!? YOU BETCHA!!
Now to grab those running shoes and put on some more miles! WHoooo hooo!
3rd quarter was too hot
October 1st, 2007I just updated my mileage and was weaker this time than the first two. I hope to do better for this last one and will start this afternoon at the gym. I doubt that I can make 800 for the year, but I think I’ll get over 750. I’m at 574 for the year. Good luck to everyone. Just keep on.
still failure, but less failure than last quarter
September 30th, 2007Well, I still ended the quarter with less than the 100 mile goal, but I doubled what I rode between April and July. That means that with any luck, I will hit the goal for the final quarter of the year without a problem. It’s all about moving forward, right?
Still Running
September 26th, 2007I know that I have been MIA for sometime, but I really HAVE been keeping up with my running and I’ve accumulated at least 12 miles a week each week for the past month or so. I hope to get my runagogo progress updated soon!
I did it!
September 24th, 2007Well, I’ve forgotten how to make the progress bar show up, but today I hit 200.6 miles since Round 2, so hurrah for completing Rounds 1 and 2! Here’s to hitting 300 by the end of the year!
2007 Wk-end to End Breast Cancer is over; The fight continues: 60K more in 2008!!!
September 11th, 2007This was an amazing experience! I am overwhelmed with emotion, spiritually soaring high and I really don’t care that I hurt like hell, though I am hysterically amused by my attempts to climb 14 stairs to shower the previous two nights. DH threatened to video-cam my pathetic crawl up the stairs, but I said that if he did I would leave him - once I could move again.
Despite a brutal hill climb in High Park early on day one (staying there 2/3 of the way up was tempting, but not an option), minor heat stroke and sunburn (you know you’re and hot when the Gatorade actually tastes good!), and walking in the cold rain with a minor chest cold (hot herbal tea with honey from Starbucks at Davisville), surprisingly few and minor blisters with potential imminent loss of one toenail (there’s a blister under it), other body parts chaffing in places I cannot speak of, and every single muscle and joint aching and stiff with possible exception of one beside my right eyebrow… I am so incredibly glad that I did this I cannot describe the depth of my feelings.
I definitely did NOT do the whole 60km. Some people do the whole 60km. Many people don’t, and even experienced veterans of several previous years sometimes call a halt. I don’t know precisely how far I went, but I estimate a total of about 45km.
On day one I probably covered about 25km. We started with opening ceremonies shortly after dawn, leaving the CNE grounds by 7:15am. I was feeling pretty good until around 3:30pm I was overcome by extreme heat and my blood pressure was spiking (it crept up through the day, was up to 132/89 mid-day, 138/96 mid-afternoon…), so discretion being the better part of valour, I called it a day shortly before 4pm and got swept to the camp. There are numerous bike patrols and sweep vans with crews that travel back and forth along the route cheering on the walkers and offering support and water refills and blister care, and if you need a break (or if you fall to far back at the end of either day), they will take you to the next pit-stop (or all the way to camp) where there are snacks and/or meals and water and Gatorade and toilets (incredibly good portables) as well as medical personnel, and all kinds of assistance and support.
On day two I probably did another 20km. I woke up around 4:30am with a cough and fighting a chest cold, but surprisingly limber after the first day, though tired. I suspect the extreme exertion of day one undermined my immunity, as I have noticed that in the past after some extreme bike rides or overdoing other workouts. Nevertheless, I was doing okay once I got warmed up and moving. I twisted my right knee mid-morning and went about another 5km unable to keep it in alignment, then I decided not to risk damaging it further and got swept about 2km to the lunch stop. After lunch it was hard to get moving, but some bandages and stretching banished the blisters and stiffness and I started to feel pretty good.
I actually surprised myself by almost finishing the last 14km, but I completely lost it at the last pit stop just south of the CN tower with 3km to go. I was suddenly unable to even cross about a one block distance to the refreshments tent to replenish my water bottle and I just sank onto the bench and wept. I got swept over to outside the Exhibition grounds and walked one last km in from the Princess Gates and through the closing site and the ceremonies.
This year, 5,521 walkers, the largest number in the event’s five year history, and several hundred wonderful volunteer crew and support people, participated AND raised more than $17.3 million for breast cancer research and care! The 6th annual Toronto Weekend to End Breast Cancer benefiting Princess Margaret Hospital is already planned for Sept. 5-7, 2008. I have already registered for next year AND I am starting a team: “Knitters for Knockers!” Everyone is welcome: knitters and crocheters, weavers and spinners, and even those who are not fibre-fanatical (though we can’t promise not to attempt to lure you over to the yarn side). As we train through the year, we’ll probably set up a flexible buddy system so that faster walkers can go at their pace and slower ones at theirs, but everybody will have someone with them throughout training and the walk for both company and safety. I’ll definitely be planning some extended yarn-crawls… downtown like last time but then also to the beaches, etc. 60 more in 2008!!! If you want to join us in 2008, let me know!
