Walking Wheel or Great Wheel, the wheels this large are earlier types of spinning wheel dating from the early to mid 1800s The
fiber is held in the left hand and the wheel slowly turned with the
right. This wheel is thus good for using the long-draw spinning
technique, which requires only one active hand most of the time, thus
freeing a hand to turn the wheel. This one is missing the fly wheel or whorl and not sure what else but I always see parts on eBay.
Beautiful piece measuring 5 ft high the wheel itself is 4 ft. Approximately 7 ft long in oak and possibly hickory or walnut. Even with the missing part it is still a gorgeous piece for a museum or display in a store front. Very under priced but I need the space. Pick up only in Clare, Michigan.
