The Delhi unit of the BJP on Saturday took a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi, calling her a “remote control” Chief Minister, soon after the latter was sworn-in to the top post in a low-key ceremony at Raj Niwas.
Atishi was administered oath as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena days after AAP chief stepped down from the top post.
Atishi, a first-time AAP MLA from Kalkaji, is now Delhi’s third woman Chief Minister after Congress’ Sheila Dikshit and BJP’s Sushma Swaraj.
Reacting to the development, the Delhi BJP took to X and called Atishi a “remote control CM”.
“Delhi’s remote control Chief Minister, Atishi Marlena,” the party said in a post in Hindi.
The BJP has been strongly criticising Aam Aadmi Party’s decision to make Atishi the Chief Minister after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation from the top post.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta said, “It is a dummy government and a dummy Chief Minister. It will be a remote-controlled run government. This is just a formality. How can Arvind Kejriwal continue when he is a culprit?”
BJP leader Gupta asked the people of Delhi to question what the government has done in the last eight months.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva echoed similar sentiments, accusing the AAP government of corruption and mismanagement.
“There is a change in the face but not the government,” Sachdeva said, adding that Atishi should first open the former Chief Minister Kejriwal’s luxurious ‘Sheeshmahal’ bungalow to the public.
He alleged that the bungalow was built during the Covid-19 lockdown by looting public money.
Earlier, the Delhi BJP shared a poster on X, showing Arvind Kejriwal controlling Atishi with strings, captioned “Puppet CM of Delhi.”
BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari earlier said that Arvind Kejriwal has no “confidence” in his party and wants to make someone who is “weaker” than him the Chief Minister.
